Drivers in Chard, Ilminster and Horton in the south-west have been warned that vandals targeting local cars are currently on the loose in the area.
More than 20 vehicles in the region were badly damaged over the weekend, leaving motorists with bills of thousands of pounds - which may result in several car insurance claims - in some cases, the Chard & Ilminster News reports.
Neighbourhood Sgt Andy Lloyd said that police are currently looking at CCTV footage and other evidence to catch the yobs responsible for the damage.
"The cost of the damage is likely to be several thousand pounds and we are very keen to identify those responsible," he commented.
According to recent research by the AA, the north of England is the region most likely to see motorists' vehicles fall foul of vandals, with Scottish cars the least likely to be damaged in this way.
