Leicester drivers warned over car thefts

Motorists in Leicester have been urged to be on their guard following a series of thefts from cars in the Spinney Hill Park area.
More than 40 thefts have been reported to police over a two-week period - potentially underlining the need for car insurance - and, as a result, officers have warned drivers to avoid leaving valuables on view in their vehicles.
PC Anil Chauhan of the Spinney Hill Park police station said that most of the cases took place on weekend evenings, with most incidents seeing windows smashed and stereos stolen.
If you have a satnav always remove it from view, together with any leads and the cradle, he commented.
'Don't leave it in the glove box or under the seat, as thieves know where to look. If you have a removable stereo then take this with you too.
The Blaby Community Safety Partnership is currently running a vehicle crime prevention roadshow in Thorpe Astley to advise drivers on the best way to secure their vehicles and avoid falling foul of car thieves. The event runs until May 2nd.
