Uninsured drivers 'encouraged by lack of government campaign'

The lack of a large government campaign highlighting the need for motor insurance is one of the reasons why people drive without the required cover, according to the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba).
Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive for the organisation, said that a planned campaign from the government in the next year could be good progress in terms of tackling the problem.
We know we should wear seatbelts and tax our car because there are big campaigns saying: don't drink-drive ... but there has never been anything about insuring your vehicle, so far, he said.
Mr Trudgill added that the current fine system is not too scary, meaning people are willing to run the risk of getting caught driving without car insurance rather than spend money on cover.
Biba claims to be the leading general insurance organisation in the UK, representing the interests of both industry and consumers.
