A new Volkswagen model yet to even arrive on forecourts will be put through its latest round of testing on a legendary racetrack.
The Scirocco will face the Nurburgring, Germany, later this month with three factory-developed racing versions of the new coupe put through their paces.
Racing driver Hans Stuck will take the wheel of the vehicle in a 24-hour race set to be covered on German television and expected to attract 200,000 trackside fans.
He said: "I felt immediately comfortable in the car, the Scirocco is one of the most uncomplicated racing cars I have ever driven."
The model is following in familiar footsteps as last year a Volkswagen Golf GTI came first in its class at the same race.
A concept version of the Scirocco first appeared in 2006 and Volkswagen is now months from finally unleashing it on the hot hatch market, with some motor insurance customers hotly anticipating the new two litre vehicle.
Sciroccos first appeared in 1974 but later went out of production before Volkswagen decided to reinvent them for the 21st century as a faster cousin of the Golf GTI.
