Home boiler change 'could save money'

Homeowners looking to make their houses eco-friendly have been advised to focus on energy use and consider a particular type of boiler.

Experts at Worcester Bosch Group said fitting an A-rated condensing boiler in place of an older system could save around £250 in bills.

Research from the company shows boilers more than 15 years old are only around 65 per cent efficient, meaning they waste around 35p of very £1 spent on fuel.

Worcester Bosch head of sustainable development Neil Schofield said changing a boiler was one of the "biggest improvements" green-minded homeowners could make.

The firm has been manufacturing domestic boilers in the UK since 1962 and is a recognised market leader in high efficiency boiler technology.

Statistics from the company show replacing a boiler could reduce a home’s CO2 emissions by 1.1 tonnes.

Earlier this month The National Home Improvement Council warned people should consult experts rather than replace boilers themselves to avoid adversely affecting their home insurance policies.
