Drivers could cut their risks of having a crash by up to half if they take an advanced driving course, an authority claims.
Motorists in Hertfordshire are being invited to sign up to the scheme, which involves one evening class a week leading up to a full practical test.
According to the Hemel Gazette, a place costs just £50 or £40 for people who are retired or on benefits.
The arrival of the scheme follows an announcement by the government that the full driving test may change while ministers attempt to encourage drivers to continue learning throughout their lives.
Quoted by the paper, Hertfordshire county councillor Stuart Pile said: "With ever increasing volumes of traffic on the roads, there's no better time to improve your driving ability."
Drivers who complete the course could lessen their chances of having an accident and save money on
car insurance premiums by cutting the risk of making claims.
