Drivers in one region will face a new type of speed camera experts say could catch twice as many
speeders as older models.
The new digital devices are to arrive in Sussex, according to the Rye and Battle Observer.
The Sussex Safer Road Partnership (SSRP), which runs the area's fixed and mobile camera network are
testing the new model, which does not need a film cartridge, before a rollout.
Quoted by the paper, SSRP communications manager Emma Rogers said: "We are happy to be
supporting new technology. We will be looking at changing all of our "wet" film cameras."
She also said the main aim of the scheme was to drive down accident rates in county, adding the
new cameras would be visible to give motorists warning.
Drivers caught speeding are likely to end with points on their licences, some could find their
car insurance premiums
increase as a result.
Launched in 2007, the SSRP also runs safety awareness campaigns alongside managing Sussex's speed cameras.
