RAC issues advice on saving fuel

Rising fuel costs are causing "untold misery" for drivers but savings can be made through simple habit changes, the RAC says.

The motoring organisation said the social lives of some people could be increasing in cost as 85per cent of car trips at weekends are made for social reasons.

So experts are issuing tips on how to reduce fuel consumption and lessen the impact of soaring petrol prices.

RAC Foundation deputy director Sheila Rainger said: "High fuel costs are causing untold misery for UK motorists. The good news is that motorists can award themselves a cut in fuel prices of 9p a litre by simply changing their driving habits."

Advice includes sticking to the speed limit and removing roof racks to reduce drag and weight.

Some cash-strapped drivers are looking to compare car insurance quotes to save cash while others are looking to downsize their vehicle on their next purchase, according to Motorpoint.
