Car sharing 'can slash fuel bills'

Car sharing could help some drivers to save as much as three quarters of their rising fuel bills, according to a motoring group.
The Royal Automobile Club Foundation (RACF) has urged motorists to consider taking or giving lifts on the way to work.
Government statistics quoted by the organisation say only around one per cent of drivers have been part of a formal car sharing scheme.
RACF deputy director Sheila Rainger said: "In light of current high fuel prices, motorists should not overlook the potential benefits of car sharing, which can reduce the cost of their journeys by up to three quarters."
To get the maximum benefit car sharers should aim for a system involving four people, the group added.
Experts also said car sharing could reduce financial, environmental and congestion costs associated with 18 million daily UK work journeys.
Drivers looking to reduce regular costs could also save money by comparing
car insurance quotes to land a better deal.
Last month the EU Commission issued eco driving tips which could help motorists dramatically reduce their emissions and cut fuel costs.
