Two-wheeled transport remains a popular way of getting around amid rising petrol prices, a new report suggests.
According to figures from the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCIA), motorbike registrations saw a drop of one per cent last month, compared to a six per cent fall in the UK car market.
The association said moped sales continue to rise while adventure sport bikes are also proving popular.
Craig Carey-Clinch of the MCIA said: "Given that everyone is feeling the financial pinch and the fact that summer weather has been poor, these figures are encouraging and slightly better than the industry expected."
Officials said the best-selling bike in June was the Yamaha YZF R125, while the best-selling make was Honda, followed by Yamaha and Suzuki.
Riders picking up new sets of wheels to replace cars could get
motorbike insurance quotes via the web in an effort to further save on the costs of getting around.
The MCIA represents the supply section of the motorcycle industry with members including bike manufacturers and importers plus wholesalers and marketing services.
