IAM reminds motorists of 'drink-drive black mark'

A specialist drivers' organisation has reminded motorists of the risks of drink driving and advised a conviction can result in an 11-year 'black mark'.

The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) reminded motorists that a drink offence results in an 11-year licence endorsement.

It also said motorists should not drink at all when driving and must be wary of drink limits in other countries, which stand at zero in some nations.

The IAM said: "Your ability to drive can be affected by even a modest amount of alcohol, at any time of year."

It added drink can still affect a motorist's performance, even when below the legal limit.

Motorists who are caught drink driving face automatic bans, plus fines, and are also likely to find it harder to get car insurance cover after completing their disqualification periods.

Younger drivers in Henley-on-Thames, south Oxfordshire, are currently being targeted with a campaign DVD designed to discourage them from driving in the mornings while still over the limit following a night out, according to the Henley Standard.
