Homeowners looking to cut their energy bills and do their bit for the environment should turn towards a new 'greener' boilers, experts have said.

The National Landlords' Association (NLA) also advised simple measures such as cavity walls and double glazing could also drive down regular costs.

In May, the NLA encouraged private residential landlords to use the Landlord Energy Saving Allowance (LESA).

LESA arrives in October and allows landlords to claim up to £1,500 per property against the cost of installing energy saving features.

NLA senior policy officer Elizabeth Brogan said: "Replacing boilers with more energy efficient condensing combination boilers is a very good option and that will have a major impact on the energy efficiency of the property."

Homeowners battling rising energy bills may also find they can save money by turning to the internet to get home insurance quotes on a better cover deal.

The NLA is a company limited by guarantee and aiming to protect and promote the interests of residential landlords operating in the private rented sector.
