Commercial drivers struggling with rising petrol costs have a new dual fuel option thanks to French manufacturer Citroen.
The company has unveiled the Nemo X van, a petrol and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) vehicle which Citroen says could bring drivers huge savings.
With average LPG prices standing at 58p per litre compared to around £1.19 for petrol, the running costs of the Nemo look set to be far lower than a more conventional van.
Citroen commercial vehicle operations manager Robert Handyside said: "Both the new Nemo and existing Berlingo First dual fuel vans are exempt from the London congestion charge as they meet Powershift Band 4 emissions standards."
The combined fuel and charge savings could see a London driver save up to £1,696 per year with the model, Citroen added.
Commercial drivers looking for other ways of cutting costs could also get
van insurance quotes online in an effort to find cheaper cover.
Compared to petrol an LPG-powered car produces 15 per cent less carbon dioxide and 97 per cent less benzene emissions, according to LPGs R Us.
