Motoring experts have said the ongoing credit crunch has not affected the UK car modification scene.

Fast Car Magazine's reviews editor said most people who modified their cars were aged between 16 and 24 and "lived at home with their parents so they're not really being affected".

The Frost and Sullivan Transportation Group has found 60 per cent of car owners have performed at least one vehicle modification in 2008 compared to 57 percent in 2006.

Fast Car reviews editor Ben Chandler said of modifying: "I wouldn't say it's not a good line of investment because it's like playing golf, it's something that's a hobby."

Drivers looking to save money when upgrading their vehicles could go online to get modified car insurance quotes.

The best-selling car modification, as of 21 July 2008, at Body-kit.co.uk were gear knobs, while door mirrors are also proving popular.

Fast Car Magazine has been in circulation since the mid-1980s and is aimed at readers interested in modified cars.
