Long white beaches and palm trees swaying in the breeze. Stunning Art Deco buildings and vibrant Little Havana. Neon-lit nightclubs and turquoise seas. Miami has a grip on the popular imagination when it comes to beachfront glamour. And if you're ready to experience it for real, then here's what you need to know about Magic City. Welcome to our lowdown on Miami holidays.
Miami holidays - two cities in one
Miami and Miami Beach are separate cities but are two sides of the same coin. Miami Beach is where you'll find South Beach. This is where the candy-coloured Art Deco hotels are and where the glitterati come to party. Ocean Drive is its seafront zenith, where the sun's gonna shine on everything you do, and where Versace had his mansion. Life is a fashion show here.
Miami is its grittier and more vibrant sister. Home to Little Havana, the arty enclave of Wynwood, and the luxury shopping centre that is Design District, this is where Miami flexes its creative muscle away from the beach.
As a melting pot of American, Hispanic and Caribbean culture, Miami makes for a unique experience. The food is amazing, the nightlife is amazing, the music, the cocktails, the scenery... there's nowhere quite like Miami.
Miami beach holidays
Miami Beach is Miami for most holidaymakers and spring-breakers. A 10-minute drive over the causeway and Biscayne Bay, Miami Beach is an island of beach resorts and good times. You'll find plenty of big luxury hotels here alongside the finest examples of Art Deco architecture anywhere in the world.
If you can tear yourself away from the sun longer and the nightlife, Miami Beach also makes a great base to explore the rest of southern Florida...
Beyond Miami - Florida holidays and cruises
Biscayne National Park and the world-famous Everglades are on your doorstep in Miami. If you need a break from the beach and the city then get back to nature here... just watch out for the alligators.
Further south out of Miami, you come to the Florida Keys. These idiosyncratic islands walk to their own beat and are a paradise for those who love to fish, dive and sail. Talking of taking to the water, PortMiami is known as the 'Cruise Capital of the World'. With Port Everglades nearby too, Miami is often the departure point for Caribbean cruises.

How to find cheap holidays to Miami
Miami is known as a winter sun destination, with an average high temperature in December of 25C. This is peak season for Miami, especially for UK visitors. Try to avoid Christmas and half-term holidays to make your money go further. March to May is a good time to visit as the temperature rises but the room rates don't. High summer is hurricane season, so it'll be cheap then; but y'know... hurricanes.
Aside from coming when the weather might be crazy, there are other ways to do Miami for less. Book well in advance or right at the last minute. And always compare to see if there are savings to be had out there.
One final thing - remember to sort your Esta in plenty of time, which is like a visa for America for British tourists. Have a nice trip!
