Increase of 7.8% to add £86 to average annual dual fuel bill and takes effect in March
- Price rise set to affect 1.1 million customers
- News comes just days after Npower announced price hikes for its customers
- Households could save £305* by switching supplier*
Scottish Power has today joined Npower by announcing a price hike of 7.8% for its customers’ gas and electricity prices.
Ben Wilson, from Gocompare.com Energy said: “Scottish Power has become the latest energy firm to punish customers with a price rise, announcing a significant 7.8% hike that will surely hit already stretched households hard in the pocket.
“Approximately 1.1 million customers will be impacted by this price rise, and with more providers likely to follow suit, now could be a good time for customers to lock in fixed deals while they’re still competitive.
“Moving to a fixed tariff can help you keep control of what you’re spending on gas and electricity, and ensure that you’re not hit by further energy price hikes. There are currently a range of competitive fixed tariffs available, and to compare them all you need is your annual energy usage, which you can get from your current supplier, and your postcode. Remember, no single tariff will be best for everyone, and that’s why it’s important that you shop around to find the supplier that’s offering the right deal for you.
Ben Wilson added: “Homeowners have been warned, energy prices are going up in March for millions of people, but there is still time to switch. Typically, it takes around two weeks for a switch to complete – so now is the time to act. It is quick and easy to do, and could save you as much as £305.
“To put this into perspective, if all households affected by Scottish Power’s latest hike switched they could collectively save up to £170 million**, just for a few minutes work - making it time well spent.
“So, whether you’re a Scottish Power or Npower customer whose bills are set to rocket, or if you’re sick of getting fleeced by your energy provider, vote with your feet – switch and save!”
