What does it cover?

To get the full list of what each AA policy covers, you’ll need to read the policy documents, but you can expect:

  • Emergency medical expenses up to £15 million
  • Personal accident cover
  • Cancellation cover
  • Personal liability cover for your stay in temporary rented holiday accommodation
  • Some types of manual work will be covered, but it’s best to check what exactly your chosen policy insures
  • Delayed baggage benefit if your luggage doesn’t make an appearance for more than 12 hours
  • Acts of terrorism are covered, subject to conditions
  • Certain sports are covered as standard, including sailing, jet boating and powerboating, as long as you’re not competing or racing

What isn’t covered?

It’s important to get familiar with what isn’t covered before you depart. AA exclusions include:

  • Loss, theft or damage of personal items or baggage that is left unattended
  • Claims relating to pre-existing conditions that you haven’t disclosed
  • Participation in a sport/activity which isn’t covered by the policy. For example, motorboating and diving with sharks
  • Professional entertaining while abroad
  • If you break the law and are involved in criminal activity

What upgrades can I make to my policy?

For an additional fee, you can upgrade your policy to include winter sports, like skiing and snowboarding.

You can also get cover for a golf holiday as an add-on. This provides insurance for your clubs, as well as paying out for irrecoverable green fees if you must cancel or cut your trip short.

Is AA travel insurance right for me?

Only you can decide whether it’s the right fit for you.

Take into consideration what you need cover for on your holiday and at what level. You’ll also want to decide on how much you can spend on your travel insurance.

You can then check how an AA travel policy measures up to the competition. Compare the level of cover and price to find the perfect pairing for your next vacation.

The cheapest policy may not give you the cover you need, so always check whether paying a little bit more will give you peace of mind with a more comprehensive option.
